Its back to league action for Blues when Cambridge City visit Parkside for a BetVictor league match. The teams last met back in the Conference South in the 2004/5 season, the Lilywhites coming away with a 2-1 at the Rec and the Blues winning 2-0 in the corresponding fixture at Milton Road.
In many ways Cambridge mirror Blues situation in leading a nomadic existence. Their Milton Road ground was lost to a housing development back in 2013 the last game played there in April of that year. Incensed by the then club directors decision to scrap the first team and use the reserves as a feeder for Cambridge United supporters came together to form a supporters trust to oversee the running of the club and sweep away the old regime. Since the sale of Milton Road the Lilywhites have ground shared at St. Ives and currently at Histon, however there is light at the end of the tunnel when planning permission was granted for a new community stadium in Sawston with a view to moving into their new home within the next twelve to eighteen months.
On the field Cambridge have not made the best of starts to life in the BetVictor league, a promising away win at Tilbury was followed by a draw and four straight defeats but their last outing resulted in a creditable 3-2 home win against one of the title favourites Coggeshall Town leaving the Lilywhites in 16th place with 7 points. One name familiar to Blues fans in their squad is Sam Bantick signed recently from Enfield Town.
After a traumatic few weeks Blues will be looking to get back to league action and continue their great start to the season, the FA Cup expulsion has galvanised the squad determined to put the disappointment behind them and concentrate on building a promotion push. The one big disappointment is the loss of leading scorerTony Stokes to a knee injury which hopefully will not keep him out of action for too long. jim Cooper wasted no time in filling the gap left by Stokes absence when he signed Luke Callander from Bishops Stortford who is expected to make his debut tomorrow.
