Grays Athletic vs Canvey Island - FA Trophy

Grays Athletic host Canvey Island in the FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round this Saturday.

Both clubs have won the trophy, Grays won it twice on the bounce in the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons. Whereas Canvey lifted the trophy in 2000/01, with a 1-0 win over Forest Green Rovers at Villa Park.

The Islanders currently sit in ninth place in the Ryman Premier League, with seven wins after 13 games. Their top goal scorer this term is Rob King (9) followed by Danny Heale (6). Canvey have recently signed Kyle Asante on loan from Southend United, having played nine times in the Football League, scoring once.

During pre-season, Grays defeated Canvey 2-1 away at Park Lane with goals coming from Jean-Michel Sigere and Louis Dennis. The last time the two clubs met in a competitive fixture, was on 23rd December 2008 in the Essex Senior Cup Fourth Round. Canvey were victorious 3-2, with the game having gone into extra-time. Barry Cogan and Leon McKenzie scored for the Blues.

Kick-off is at 15:00 at Rookery Hill.
